Once we start to delve deeper into magical mysteries we begin to not only look for technique and historic applications, but it also becomes a time for general exploration of magical application. The following files look into a broad variety of applications of visionary and ritual magic, looking at how magical techniques can be applied in different settings and circumstances and looking at how different paths/cultures have applied particular techniques. There are also files that look at often ignored or overlooked and yet important aspects of magic and their applications.
As always, I approach these aspects of magic as technique not dogma, so they are not attached to a particular path, rather the technique is presented in a working dynamic rather than dogmatic theory. I may use a particular style of magic or a religious application in the file but that is purely to demonstrate how a technique has been applied. I will keep adding to the files, bringing different themes and magical works out of the cupboard and dusting them off for you to read!
Tribal application of magic
The following files looks at magic from a more tribal aspect, to give another view on magical application. For those following a more craft orientated path, or tribal cultural path, you will see how the techniques manifest themselves in various cultural patterns. For a ritual magician, it gives a different view on power dynamics, energy and inner beings.
The first file below, Shamans, looks at a few different aspects of tribal magic.
While we are on the subject of Tribal applications of magic, there is a whole area of magic that is currently ignored in ritual magic and that is the issue of beings who act in a parasitical nature. These are not beings 'of a particular path', they are a part of nature and directly affect us in many ways. If you are working in ritual magic, it bodes well to be aware of these beings and learn how to deal with them should they become a problem.
The visionary and ritual workings of inner landscapes is yet another branch of magic that has been heavily overlooked in the scramble to mystify and intellectualise magic. It forms a basis for the interface of power from the inner/astral worlds to the outer worlds and as such makes it a hugely important element to take into account when working magic.
Working in the Underworld
The Underworld is very much the bridge between ancient and tribal forms of magic and the more ceremonial and ritualised forms of magic we see today. A ritual magician needs roots, grounding and access to deep wells of power. These things come from the Underworld and the powers that flow through the Underworld. When training magicians, priests or priestesses, the first few things they learn from me, once they have the basics of tools and techniques, is accessing death and the Underworld. That creates a strength and ballast within the magician which protects them when they begin to stretch up and out to different powers and realms. The following file gives a short introduction to the Underworld and the Abyss, the Underworld Goddess and some of the deep inner contacts that dwell in the Underworld.
The Western Mysteries
The following files look in to some areas of Western Ritual Magic that are often glossed over or not discussed in any depth. These files look into aspects of power dynamics for magical lodges and groups, from the dynamics of the inner structures of a group, the lines of consecration and initiation, to the methods of leading groups into the inner/astral realms.
